Course Aims

This course is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of spiking and educate venues on how to prevent it. Participants will learn to identify the warning signs of spiking, implement effective preventative measures, and respond appropriately to incidents. By taking this course, venues can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

Course Objectives

  • Educate on the prevalence and risks of spiking:  Provide clear information about the rising concern of spiking incidents and why they occur.  Highlight the associated risks and long-term consequences for victims.  
  • Increase awareness of spiking methods: Explain the different types of spiking (e.g., drink spiking, injection spiking).  Identify common substances used to spike drinks or food and their effects.  
  • Identify vulnerabilities and likely scenarios:  Share insights on when and where spiking incidents are most likely to happen. Outline the factors perpetrators consider when selecting their victims.  
  • Recognise the signs of spiking: Provide indicators of someone who may have been spiked, including behavioural and physical symptoms.  
  • Guide effective responses to spiking: Offer actionable advice on how to help someone suspected of being spiked.  Stress the importance of seeking immediate assistance and medical attention.  
  • Define personal responsibility in preventing spiking:  Encourage individuals to adopt behaviours that reduce risks, such as monitoring their drinks and staying vigilant in social settings.  Promote the importance of bystander intervention when witnessing suspicious activities.
